How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

A 2% reward on 1,000 is 20. If the reward cap is 15, the capped reward is 15.

Uncapped reward = eligible spend × reward fraction; capped reward = min(cap, uncapped reward)

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Reward without cap

Assumptions and limitations

  • Enter eligible spending after any exclusions. One reward rate applies to all entered spending.
  • The cap limits the reward amount, not the spending eligible for rewards. Tiered spending caps need separate calculations.
  • This model excludes fees, interest, redemption rules and category eligibility. The capped result is read-only; uncapped arithmetic supports reverse calculations.

Common questions

Does the cap limit my purchases?

No. It limits the calculated reward. Enter a reward cap in the same currency as spending.

Can I solve for eligible spending?

In uncapped mode, enter reward and a positive reward percentage. A capped reward alone does not identify a unique spending amount.
