Formula and method
At 24 per hour for 40 paid hours each week, weekly gross pay is 960. Multiplying by 52 gives annual pay of 49,920; dividing by 12 gives average monthly pay of 4,160.
Weekly pay = hourly pay × paid weekly hours; annual = weekly × 52; average monthly = annual ÷ 12

Assumptions and limitations
- Pay and schedule are constant across 52 paid weeks. Unpaid leave, bonuses, benefits, tax, deductions and overtime premiums are not added.
- Daily pay is weekly pay divided by entered working days per week. Fractional days can represent an average schedule.
- Average monthly pay is annual pay divided by 12. It is not the exact earnings for a particular calendar month.
- Two-week pay uses 26 periods in this 52-week model; semimonthly pay uses 24 periods. Actual payroll calendars can differ.
- Pay can be zero. Weekly hours must be positive to support reverse hourly conversions.
- Currency selectors label amounts; they do not convert currencies or fetch wages.
- Some fields retain whole-unit display rounding. The Calculated line preserves additional numerical detail when rounding would hide a difference.
Common questions
Does this calculate take-home pay?
No. It converts an entered gross-pay amount between periods. Taxes and deductions require their own inputs and applicable rules.
Why is monthly pay more than four weekly payments?
The annual model has 52 weeks. Dividing by 12 gives 4⅓ weeks per average month, rather than four.
Are biweekly and semimonthly the same?
No. In this model biweekly means every two weeks, giving 26 periods, while semimonthly means twice per month, giving 24.
How do I solve for weekly hours?
Unlock and clear weekly hours. If working days are also locked, unlock that field and enter its value again, then enter hourly and weekly pay. Locking fields changes which values the calculator can solve.
