How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
In initial display units, Length of the area (L) 2, Width of the area (W) 3, Length of tile (l) 9, Width of tile (w) 9, Gap width (g) 10, Gap depth 10, Grout density 1000, Dry material percentage 50, Weight per bag 2 gives Total area to be tiled 6, Area covered by a single tile 81, Grout volume 11400, Grout weight 11.4, Dry material weight 5.7, Number of bags needed 3.
Joint fraction = 1−tile area/((tile length+gap)×(tile width+gap)); grout volume = area×joint fraction×depth; dry mass = wet mass×dry percentage.

Assumptions and limitations
- The continuous repeating grid ignores edge cuts and individual perimeter joints. Density and dry percentage must come from the selected product; the presets are illustrative. The dry fraction is greater than zero and at most 100%.
- Select compatible units and clear the quantity to solve before supplying the remaining measurements. Rounded purchase counts cannot uniquely recover a continuous dimension. Currency choices label amounts and do not convert exchange rates.
Common questions
How can I solve for a missing measurement?
Clear that field, then enter independent known values. Lock a known measurement to preserve it while changing another value. Procurement counts are rounded upward and cannot be reversed uniquely.

Enforce the stated physical and discrete input domains. Bookify replaces the captured rounded US gallon with the exact 3.785411784-liter definition. Bookify uses exact customary mass and volume definitions for density units, replacing rounded factors in the reference.
