Formula and method

In initial display units, Wall width 4, Wall height 2, Block width 40, Block height 20, Single block's price 2 gives Wall area 8, Number of blocks needed 100, Total cost 200, Standard bags of mortar 4.

Wall area = width × height; custom blocks = ceil(wall area/(block width × block height)); mortar bags = ceil(block count/33.3).

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Custom block dimensions must describe effective coverage including joints. The 33.3-blocks-per-bag mortar allowance is a planning convention, not a product specification. Openings, bond pattern, cuts, waste and labor are excluded.
  • Select compatible units and clear the quantity to solve before supplying the remaining measurements. Rounded purchase counts cannot uniquely recover a continuous dimension. Currency choices label amounts and do not convert exchange rates.

Common questions

How can I solve for a missing measurement?

Clear that field, then enter independent known values. Lock a known measurement to preserve it while changing another value. Procurement counts are rounded upward and cannot be reversed uniquely.
