Formula and method
A market capitalization of 1,000,000 across 50,000 shares implies 20 per share. A second company at 30 per share has a nominal price difference of 10.
Share price = market capitalization ÷ shares outstanding; nominal difference = |price B − price A|

Assumptions and limitations
- Market capitalization, share price and shares outstanding must refer to the same share class and date. Enter amounts on a consistent scale.
- All monetary fields must use the same currency. Currency selectors use fixed rates captured with the model, not live exchange rates; use one currency consistently for financial comparisons.
- A smaller price per share does not establish that a company is undervalued: share counts and stock splits affect nominal prices.
- Shares outstanding must be positive. Fractional or scaled share counts are accepted when the monetary values use a consistent scale.
Common questions
Can I calculate market capitalization instead?
Yes. Enter price per share and shares outstanding for that company.
Is the lower-priced share the better investment?
This calculation cannot determine that. Compare ownership, earnings, cash flows, risk and other relevant information.
