Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

Earnings per share of 3 at a 10% cost of equity imply a no-growth benchmark of 30 per share. A share price of 50 leaves an implied growth value of 20 per share.

Implied growth value = share price − earnings per share ÷ cost of equity

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Earnings per share (EPS)
3 USD
Share price
50 USD
Cost of equity
10 %
Present value of growth opportunities (PVGO)
20 USD

Assumptions and limitations

  • The benchmark treats earnings per share as a constant perpetual distribution and uses a positive cost of equity for the same period. It does not forecast cash flows, reinvestment returns or dividend policy.
  • Use a consistent earnings and share basis. The implied difference can be zero or negative and is not an investment recommendation.

Common questions

Does positive implied growth value prove growth will occur?

No. It is the part of the entered share price above a simplified no-growth benchmark. The outcome depends on the earnings and discount-rate assumptions and can differ from a detailed valuation.
