How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Edit a calculated value to solve backwards, or lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

A round pool with a 2 meter internal diameter and 1 meter water depth holds π m³, approximately 3,141.59 liters. At 2 per m³, the water costs approximately 6.28.

Circle area = π × diameter² ÷ 4; ellipse area = π × length × width ÷ 4; volume = plan area × depth; cost = volume × water price

Assumptions and limitations

  • Use internal water dimensions and the actual fill level, not outside shell dimensions.
  • Above-ground mode uses one uniform depth. Filling cost excludes fixed utility charges, delivery and treatment chemicals.

Common questions

When is averaging shallow and deep depths appropriate?

The in-ground model takes the arithmetic mean of two depths. Use it when those depths fairly represent average water depth across the plan area, such as a uniform slope. Steps, shelves, irregular floors and changing wall profiles need separate volume calculations.

Does oval mean any rounded rectangle?

This model treats an oval as an ellipse measured across its full internal length and width. A stadium shape or rectangular pool with rounded corners has a different area.

References

The pool geometry and cost model follow the referenced definition. Bookify uses exact US gallons, including prices per thousand gallons. The length label explicitly identifies the circle diameter.
