Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

Divide receivables by net credit sales for the period, then multiply by days in that period. Use the average-balance section when beginning and ending receivables are available.

Receivables days = receivables ÷ net credit sales × period days

Common questions

Should cash sales be included?

Use net credit sales when measuring collection of receivables. Including sales already collected in cash changes the interpretation of the ratio.
