Formula and method

Reducing a one-hour race time by 5% gives 57 minutes. A 10% time reduction gives 54 minutes.

Target elapsed time = original elapsed time Γ— (1 βˆ’ reduction fraction)

Assumptions and limitations

  • Enter a positive race duration. The custom reduction may be zero or greater, but must remain below 100% so that the target duration stays positive.
  • The target refers to the same distance. A time reduction percentage is not the same as a speed increase percentage.
  • These are arithmetic targets, not predictions of training response, fitness or safe performance. The selected time format controls display and unit conversion.

Common questions

Is a 5% shorter time the same as 5% higher speed?

No. At fixed distance, speed is inversely proportional to time. A 5% time reduction increases average speed by about 5.263%.

References

Bookify accepts any nonnegative time-reduction percentage below 100%, including unchanged-time and sub-one-percent targets.
