Formula and method
A 36-hour interval is 1.5 fixed days, 2,160 minutes or 129,600 seconds. The compound-time field can show the same duration in hours, minutes and seconds.
Days = hours ÷ 24; minutes = hours × 60; seconds = hours × 3,600

Assumptions and limitations
- A year means exactly 365.25 days (31,557,600 seconds) in this model. A month is one twelfth of that year: 30.4375 days or 2,629,800 seconds. These fixed durations do not count actual calendar months or anniversaries.
- A day is 24 hours, an hour is 60 minutes and a minute is 60 seconds. This arithmetic does not account for daylight-saving transitions, leap seconds or a named time zone.
- Compound time fields use colons between the displayed components. For example, 1:30:0 in hours/minutes/seconds is 1.5 hours, not 1.30 decimal hours. Use the selected unit to interpret the components.
- This captured input model accepts positive durations only. Zero and negative durations are rejected.
Common questions
Is 1.5 hours one hour fifty minutes?
No. Half an hour is thirty minutes, so 1.5 hours equals one hour thirty minutes.
Can this calculate work shifts across clock changes?
It converts an already known duration. Calculate the actual elapsed time between the dated, zoned start and end first; a wall-clock subtraction can differ around clock changes.
