How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.
Formula and method
At a density of 1.2 g/mL, 500 mL has a mass of 600 g, or 0.6 kg. Enter a custom density to model the material and conditions you actually have.
Mass = density × volume; convert the resulting mass to the selected unit
Worked example

Assumptions and limitations
- Density, volume and mass must be positive. The listed water, milk and cooking-oil presets assume 1, 1.035 and 0.916 g/mL respectively; they are illustrative rather than measured values for every product.
- Choose Other to enter a measured density. Temperature, composition and processing can change density; using a more precise number does not remove uncertainty in the input.
Common questions
Can I use a density measured for my material?
Yes. Select Other and enter the density in the chosen mass and volume units. The preset density field becomes editable.
Are milliliters and grams interchangeable?
No. One milliliter has a mass of one gram only when the density is 1 g/mL.
