Formula and method

25,400 micrometers equal 25.4 millimeters, 0.0254 meters, one international inch or 254,000,000 angstroms.

Meters = micrometers × 10⁻⁶; inches = micrometers ÷ 25400; angstroms = micrometers × 10000

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • A micrometer (µm), also called a micron, is exactly one millionth of a meter. The international inch is exactly 0.0254 m. This model preserves signed lengths and offsets.
  • The optional light-year uses a 365.25-day Julian year and the exact vacuum speed of light. Output rounding does not establish measurement precision.
  • The optional Earth-radius scale uses 6,371,000 m and the solar-radius scale uses 695,700,000 m as reference values. They are scale conventions here, not live measurements of those bodies.

Common questions

Are microns and micrometers different?

No. Micron is another name for the micrometer, symbol µm.

How many micrometers make one millimeter?

Exactly 1,000. A measurement of 250 µm is 0.25 mm.

References

The light-year uses exactly 299792458 m/s times a 31557600-second Julian year, replacing the rounded reference factor.
