Formula and method

At the fixed assumption of half an inch monthly, six months adds 3 inches, or 7.62 cm. Starting at 10 cm gives a modeled length of 17.62 cm.

Added length = 0.5 inches × elapsed modeled months; final length = current length + added length

Assumptions and limitations

  • The fixed growth assumption is 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) per month. Individual growth differs, so this is an illustrative length projection rather than a personalized forecast.
  • No trimming, breakage, shedding or pauses in growth are included. The target must be at least the current length; an unchanged target takes zero time.
  • Time conversions use an average 30.4375-day month and 365.25-day year, rather than a calendar completion date.
  • This calculator does not diagnose hair loss or predict treatment results.

Common questions

Can I calculate the time to a target length?

Yes. Enter current and target lengths, leaving time blank. The time uses the same fixed half-inch monthly assumption.

Will my hair grow exactly this much?

No. Actual growth and retained length vary between people and over time.

References

Bookify permits zero elapsed time and zero added length and rejects a target shorter than the current length in this growth-only model.
