How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.
Use the result with context
Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.
Formula and method
Two custom contracts at 10 per tick and four ticks per point lose 160 when price falls from 100 to 98. A 500 deposit then leaves equity of 340.
Profit = tick value × ticks per point × price change × contracts; equity = deposit + profit.

Assumptions and limitations
- Use current broker margin requirements and contract specifications as entered assumptions. Captured preset tick factors are a static convenience, not current exchange requirements.
- This omits fees, currency conversion and intraday margin changes. Refill is the difference to initial margin, and can be negative when no refill is needed.
- Enter all monetary amounts in a single currency. Retained currency conversion factors are a captured static snapshot, not live exchange rates.
- Clear a known field before solving for it. Locks retain chosen inputs; inconsistent locked values need correction. Reset restores the captured defaults.
Common questions
What does the worked example show?
Two custom contracts at 10 per tick and four ticks per point lose 160 when price falls from 100 to 98. A 500 deposit then leaves equity of 340.
What assumptions limit this calculation?
Use current broker margin requirements and contract specifications as entered assumptions. Captured preset tick factors are a static convenience, not current exchange requirements.
References
Use the documented finite scenario domain. tick value must be positive. tick per point must be positive. Contracts must be a positive whole number. initial deposit cannot be negative. current initial margin cannot be negative. current maintenance margin cannot be negative. Integer membership is checked with isInteger, so ordinary, tiny and large fractional counts are rejected even when tolerant floor equality would pass.
