Formula and method
One fixed 365.25-day year equals 12 average months, 8,766 hours, 525,960 minutes or 31,557,600 seconds.
One modeled year = 365.25 days = 8,766 hours = 31,557,600 seconds; one modeled month = one year ÷ 12

Assumptions and limitations
- A year means exactly 365.25 days (31,557,600 seconds) in this model. A month is one twelfth of that year: 30.4375 days or 2,629,800 seconds. These fixed durations do not count actual calendar months or anniversaries.
- A day is 24 hours, an hour is 60 minutes and a minute is 60 seconds. This arithmetic does not account for daylight-saving transitions, leap seconds or a named time zone.
- Compound time fields use colons between the displayed components. For example, 1:30:0 in hours/minutes/seconds is 1.5 hours, not 1.30 decimal hours. Use the selected unit to interpret the components.
- The optional gigaannum is one billion modeled years. The “age of the Universe” comparison is a fixed 13.799-billion-year scale in this capture, not an updated cosmological estimate. Signed durations remain signed.
Common questions
Why does one year give 365.25 days?
The model deliberately uses a fixed Julian-year duration. Actual calendar years contain different numbers of days, so this conversion does not replace calendar arithmetic.
Can I use this for a calendar subscription or billing period?
Only when the agreement defines the period using these fixed durations. Calendar-month billing ordinarily depends on actual dates and the agreement’s rules.
