How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.
Use the result with context
Health results are educational estimates, not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation. A qualified clinician can interpret measurements in the context of your health.
Formula and method
WBC 8 ×10³/μL and eosinophils 4% give AEC 0.32 ×10³/μL, equivalent to 320 cells/μL.
AEC = WBC × eosinophil percentage / 100, with WBC and AEC in the same density units.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Total white-cell density
- 8 ×10³/μL
- Eosinophil share
- 4 %
- Absolute eosinophil density
- 0.32 ×10³/μL
Assumptions and limitations
- WBC and AEC both use the displayed scale of thousands of cells per microliter, equivalent to billions of cells per liter. Enter 8 for a laboratory report of 8 ×10⁹/L, not 8000.
- Use WBC and the differential percentage from the same sample. The percentage is between 0% and 100%; WBC must be positive and AEC cannot exceed WBC.
- Zero eosinophils gives zero AEC. A zero AEC and zero percentage do not uniquely determine total WBC; leave that unknown rather than inventing a count.
- This computes a cell-density relationship. It does not identify a cause, provide a diagnosis or interpret a result against an individual laboratory reference interval.
Common questions
Are these counts cells per microliter?
The input and result scale is ×10³ cells/μL. A displayed result of 0.32 represents 320 cells/μL.
Can I recover the eosinophil percentage?
Enter positive WBC and an AEC no greater than WBC; the percentage is 100 × AEC/WBC.

Accept zero and 100-percent eosinophil shares and zero eosinophil density while requiring positive WBC and an eosinophil density no greater than WBC. Guard both dividing inverses so a zero eosinophil pair leaves total WBC undetermined.
