Formula and method
A duration of 1.5 days equals 36 hours, 2,160 minutes or 129,600 seconds under the 24-hour-day convention.
Hours = days × 24; minutes = days × 1,440; seconds = days × 86,400

Assumptions and limitations
- A year means exactly 365.25 days (31,557,600 seconds) in this model. A month is one twelfth of that year: 30.4375 days or 2,629,800 seconds. These fixed durations do not count actual calendar months or anniversaries.
- A day is 24 hours, an hour is 60 minutes and a minute is 60 seconds. This arithmetic does not account for daylight-saving transitions, leap seconds or a named time zone.
- Compound time fields use colons between the displayed components. For example, 1:30:0 in hours/minutes/seconds is 1.5 hours, not 1.30 decimal hours. Use the selected unit to interpret the components.
- Signed durations remain signed. A negative value can describe a directed interval, but this tool does not subtract dates or identify a calendar endpoint.
Common questions
Does one calendar day always contain 24 elapsed hours?
A civil date can be shorter or longer around clock changes. This converter defines a day as a fixed 86,400-second duration rather than reading a local calendar.
How many days are in the month unit?
Exactly 30.4375 in this model, obtained by dividing a 365.25-day year by twelve. A particular calendar month can contain 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.
