Formula and method
A cylinder with radius 2 cm and height 10 cm has diameter 4 cm and volume 40π cm³, approximately 125.663706 cm³.
V = πr²h; d = 2r; r = √(V/(πh)) for h > 0

Assumptions and limitations
- The cross-section is a constant circle and the height is measured perpendicular to the base. The model does not include a hollow wall, rounded ends or a partial fill level.
- Dimensions and volume must be nonnegative. A zero radius or height gives zero volume; zero-volume inverse problems can lack a unique missing dimension.
- The US gallon, US fluid ounce and US customary cup use exact definitions. Imperial volume options are different from US options. The spoon options are specifically 15 mL and 5 mL.
- The default metric display uses centimeters and cubic centimeters. Each length selector and the volume selector can be changed independently.
Common questions
How does doubling the diameter affect volume?
With height fixed, doubling diameter also doubles radius, so volume increases by a factor of four.
Can zero volume tell me the radius?
With a positive known height, the nonnegative radius is zero. If height is also zero, volume is zero for any radius and there is no unique inverse result.

Bookify replaces the captured rounded US gallon with the exact 3.785411784-liter definition. The US fluid ounce uses one 128th of the exact US liquid gallon, replacing the rounded captured reciprocal factor. The US customary cup uses one sixteenth of the exact US liquid gallon, replacing the rounded captured cup volume.
