Formula and method
A circular rim with radius 5 cm has diameter 10 cm and circumference 10π cm, approximately 31.4159 cm.
Diameter = 2 × radius; circumference = π × diameter
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Circular rim radius
- 5 cm
- Circular rim diameter
- 10 cm
- Circumference around the rim
- 31.4159 cm
Assumptions and limitations
- The cross-section is a circle and all lengths are positive. Height does not affect rim circumference.
- This gives the boundary length around one rim, not cylinder surface area or the perimeter of a side-view rectangle.
Common questions
Do I need the cylinder height?
No. The circumference of a circular rim depends only on its radius or diameter.
Can I enter circumference first?
Yes. Enter one known rim length and the other two are calculated.
