Formula and method
A circumference of 30 m with 2 m panels corresponds to 15 panel equivalents, before allowing for a gate.
Circumference = π × diameter; panel equivalents = circumference / panel length
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Pen circumference
- 30 m
- Panel length
- 2 m
- Pen diameter
- 9.55 m
- Calculated panel equivalents
- 15
Assumptions and limitations
- This is circular-perimeter geometry. A ring of rigid straight panels is a polygon whose diameter differs from a circle with the same perimeter.
- Panel equivalents can be fractional. Round upward to buy whole panels, then adjust for gates, joining hardware and the chosen polygonal layout.
- The retained model excludes entrance or walk-through gate panels. Diameter, circumference and panel length are positive.
- Fewer than two panel equivalents triggers the captured input warning; that alone is not a structural design check.
- Arithmetic uses 64 significant decimal digits. Displayed results use the configured rounding.
Common questions
Why can the panel result be a fraction?
The equation divides continuous circular perimeter by nominal panel length. Purchasing and assembling whole straight panels is a separate rounding and layout step.
