How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
Calories burned women = 170.10. The example uses the declared units and assumptions.
Calories_burned_women=(-20.4022+(.4472)*heart_rate_women+(-.1263)*weight_women+(.074)*age_women)*Exercise_duration_women/(4.184*60); Calories_burned_men=(-55.0969+(.6309)*heart_rate_men+(.1988)*weight_men+(.2017)*age_men)*Exercise_duration_men/(4.184*60); Calories_burned_vo2max_men=(-95.7735+(.634)*heart_rate_vo2max_men+(.404)*vo2max_men+(.394)*weight_men_vo2max+(.271)*age_men_vo2max)*exercise_duration_vo2max_men/(4.184*60); Calories_burned_vo2max_women=(-59.3954+(.45)*heart_rate_vo2max_women+(.380)*vo2max_women+(.103)*weight_women_vo2max+(.274)*age_women_vo2max)*exercise_duration_vo2max_women/(4.184*60)

Assumptions and limitations
- These empirical regressions were developed in regularly exercising healthy adults during treadmill/cycle submaximal exercise, ages 19–45 in the development sample. They estimate energy expenditure from recorded exercise data; they do not measure calories or prescribe exercise. Prose-rounded coefficients are retained, and seconds are converted to minutes exactly.
- Editable controls retain the supported captured branches; clear an unknown and supply independent known quantities. A singular or underdetermined inverse may remain incomplete.
Common questions
What assumptions apply?
These empirical regressions were developed in regularly exercising healthy adults during treadmill/cycle submaximal exercise, ages 19–45 in the development sample. They estimate energy expenditure from recorded exercise data; they do not measure calories or prescribe exercise. Prose-rounded coefficients are retained, and seconds are converted to minutes exactly.
Can I solve an unknown?
Clear an editable unknown and provide enough independent quantities in the displayed units. Discrete counts must remain whole numbers.

Keytel equations predict kJ/min. Divide by4.184 to express kcal/min, and multiply seconds by the exact1/60 minute conversion rather than the captured0.0167 approximation. Preserve all four regression modes, prose-rounded coefficients and supported linear inverse branches. Use ages19–45 for the stated development-cohort comparison.
