How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.
Use the result with context
Health results are educational estimates, not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation. A qualified clinician can interpret measurements in the context of your health.
Formula and method
The worked example gives apgar_score = 10.
Sum five observation scores, each 0, 1 or 2.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Muscle tone (Activity)

- Heart rate (Pulse)
- 100 or more beats per minute
- Respiration
- Strong cry
- APGAR score
- 10 pts
Assumptions and limitations
- Record newborn observations at the designated assessment time. The ACOG/AAP 2015 statement describes five components scored 0–2. Apgar does not determine whether initial resuscitation is required and does not predict an individual infant’s neurologic outcome. The pulse category worth two points includes exactly100 beats per minute, as specified in the CDC Apgar table.
- Use measured or clinician-assessed inputs. This arithmetic does not make a diagnosis or recommend treatment. Supported editable inverses are mathematical relationships, not inferred clinical observations.
Common questions
What does this result mean?
Record newborn observations at the designated assessment time. The ACOG/AAP 2015 statement describes five components scored 0–2. Apgar does not determine whether initial resuscitation is required and does not predict an individual infant’s neurologic outcome.
Does this tool diagnose a condition?
No. It evaluates the stated observations or laboratory relationship; assessment and management require the full clinical context.
