How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

At 25 frames per second, 90,061 frames correspond to 01:00:02:11: one hour, zero minutes, two seconds and eleven remaining frames.

Divide frames by fps, then split whole seconds into hours, minutes and seconds; retain the remaining frames

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Remaining frame count

Assumptions and limitations

  • This is a non-drop arithmetic decomposition at a constant positive whole-number frame rate. Drop-frame timecode and fractional NTSC rates are outside this model.
  • Frame counts start at zero and must be nonnegative whole numbers. The result is a duration or frame offset rather than a calendar timestamp.
  • Hours are not wrapped at 24. Minutes and seconds are below 60, and remaining frames are below the selected frame rate.

Common questions

Can I enter 29.97 fps?

No. This reviewed model uses whole-number frame rates. Fractional rates and drop-frame labeling require different conventions and are not silently treated as 30 fps.

References

Bookify uses nonnegative whole frame counts and canonical components at a positive whole-number frame rate; fractional and drop-frame conventions are excluded.
