Formula and method
A bed 5 by 4 meters at 10 centimeters deep needs 2 m³. A custom bulk density of 1,600 kg/m³ gives 3.2 tonnes, costing 80 at 25 per tonne.
Volume = area × depth; mass = volume × bulk density; material cost = mass × unit price

Assumptions and limitations
- No. Grain size, voids, moisture and compaction affect bulk density. The presets are estimates; a supplier value is preferable for ordering. This model does not add delivery charges or a waste allowance.
- Enter dimensions, densities and prices that describe the actual project. Quantities absent from the formula are not added automatically.
Common questions
Is a preset gravel density exact?
No. Grain size, voids, moisture and compaction affect bulk density. The presets are estimates; a supplier value is preferable for ordering. This model does not add delivery charges or a waste allowance.
