Formula and method
1,872 individual units equal 936 pairs, 156 dozens, 144 baker’s dozens or 13 grosses. A dozen contains 12 units; a baker’s dozen contains 13.
Number of groups = individual units ÷ units per group

Assumptions and limitations
- The group sizes are exact counts: pair 2, half-dozen 6, group of ten 10, dozen 12, baker’s dozen 13, score 20, gross 144 and great gross 1,728.
- Fractions describe equivalent group quantities; the calculator does not round up to whole packages or decide a purchase quantity.
- Zero and signed amounts are supported for arithmetic adjustments. A negative quantity is an accounting change, not a physical collection of objects.
- The group-of-ten field is a count scale. It does not convert calendar decades or elapsed time.
Common questions
Can I convert in the opposite direction?
Yes. Enter the known value in any editable field. The other representations update in their selected units; changing a unit preserves the physical quantity.
Should I round 1.1 dozen up to two packages?
The conversion returns the exact equivalent count. If an order must use whole dozen-sized packages, apply the supplier’s packaging rule separately.
