How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.
Private by default
Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.
Formula and method
For the worked example, frames = 14400.00000, run_time = 600.0000000, ft_1000 = 0.9000000000, ft_400 = 2.250000000.
Frames = footage feet × frames per foot; duration = frames / frame rate.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Film format
- 35 mm, 4-perf
- Frame rate
- 24 fps
- Film length
- 274.32 m
- Frames
- 14400
- Run-time
- 0:10:0 hrs / min / sec
- 1000 ft rolls
- 0.9
- 400 ft rolls
- 2.25
Assumptions and limitations
- Film format determines frames per foot. Roll counts are continuous length equivalents, not rounded purchase quantities.
- 35 mm 3-perf retains the captured approximation 21.33 frames/foot; choose an exact supported format for exact footage planning.
- Results follow the stated ideal arithmetic model. Display rounding does not change the underlying calculation.
- Supply sufficient known values and leave the desired quantity blank. Controls retain captured inverse branches and units.
- If a retained lock prevents a reverse calculation, unlock the quantity you want to solve before supplying the known values.
Common questions
What does the worked example demonstrate?
Frames = footage feet × frames per foot; duration = frames / frame rate.
Can I change the measurement units?
Available selectors convert the entered physical quantity. Use compatible units for all related quantities.
Why can a result be blank?
A missing input, invalid denominator or underdetermined relationship cannot provide a unique finite result.
