How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.

Formula and method

A resistivity of 0.01 Ω·m corresponds to a conductivity of 100 S/m.

σ = 1/ρ; ρ = 1/σ

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Electrical conductivity (σ)

Assumptions and limitations

  • Both quantities must be positive and describe the same material under the same conditions.
  • Material presets are illustrative captured values. Temperature, composition, purity and direction can affect measured properties; select Custom for a supplied measurement.
  • This scalar reciprocal model does not represent anisotropic conductivity tensors or frequency-dependent complex impedance.

Common questions

Why is resistivity not simply resistance?

Resistivity is a material property in Ω·m. Resistance also depends on specimen length and cross-sectional area.
